For years we have worked as a community to decide what kind of City Council we want to have. I saw many of you at consultation meetings during the Ward Boundary Review. We decided together to have 47 wards with boundaries that gave you the most effective voice possible at City Hall.
Like you, I am amazed that the Premier is willing to use the notwithstanding clause to suspend our right to have a government that effectively represents our hopes and dreams for Toronto. Democracy should never be winner-take-all, but our Premier doesn't understand that.
I just wanted to say two things.
First, no matter what happens I am in this with you for the long haul. I'm staying in the race. I am out knocking on doors to talk to you about the City you want. If I'm re-elected, I will fight for a City where everyone can live decently.
Second, I want to encourage you to stay hopeful. The path to the City we want will have twists and turns, but together we will find the way forward.
Be strong. I'll see you on the campaign trail.
